On the Road: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada – A and V Drive-In

While visiting Winnipeg for work, one has to eat lunch. Of course you can slip into the habit of going to a local chain for lunch, but where’s the fun in that! Venture out of your workplace habits and try a local eatery for a pleasant surprise. This could really be an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. This family-owned place offers breakfast and lunch items and has a loyal following. Their lunch menu consists of burgers and fries, and the Quebec originated poutine – french fries topped with thin brown gravy and cheese curds.  After the recommendation from one of the owners that I would not be dissapointed, I tried the option they are known for – The Fatboy! Its a beef burger topped with chili, cheese, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and I got bacon to make it really fat, lol. Wow – what a burger. It was a home made beef patty, smothered in some of the tastiest chili I have has since I posted this recipe! Soft, seasoned, succulent meat, that just spills out of the bread and falls on the mountain of crisp, golden fries on your plate.  It fills and satisfies and leaves you smiling. That isn’t a bad way to go back to work at all. Thanks to my Winnipeg hosts MK and JC (and actually TD and GV for the recommendation).
