Featured Chef: Connie Johnson

 From her Facebook page:
Connie Johnson is a Baltimore based chef and architect of the only culinary based program in the country for grade school children called Vegetable Time. After serving as a hip-hop music executive in the early nineties, Chef Connie left the fledgling label and fast paced industry lifestyle to spend more time with her family. The proud mother and former NCAA athlete would soon suffer a tragedy. Her… eldest daughter (Bijan Brown) died of an asthma related attack just a few weeks shy of her high school graduation at the tender age of seventeen. Bijan was an honor student and University of Pennsylvania bound freshman. Connie’s life began a downward spiral but with just an old recipe book compiled by Bijan, Chef Connie slowly regained her will to live again and began to focus on the culinary arts as tribute to Bijan. It was her daughter that inspired Chef Connie to prepare healthy foods with no salt. Chef Connie would take her daughters message to Calvin M. Rodwell Elementary School where she soon created a culinary based program designed to teach children the art of healthy cooking and importance of eating vegetables.
