Review: The Red Star Bar and Grille

I’ve been to the Red Star Bar and Grille on several occasions. Every visit is enjoyable, so I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. It is located in the historic Fells Point area of Baltimore City and boasts an intriguing story of its origins on it’s website that gives it a lot of local character. The Red Star has free parking on the streets and on a parking lot in the area and is wildly popular in the area, overflowing with couples and groups out for an engaging evening. The look and feel of the bar maintains its historic heritage–everything is made of wood from the floor to the tables, seating, walls, and bar. Also the structure is part of the decor with emphasized brick walls and support beams. However, there is sufficient modern flair as to not make it look dated.

Food is the star player here. The menu has the standard bar offerings with burgers and salads. Don’t be fooled! These are no ordinary burgers with ketchup and mustard. Every menu item is sophisticated and begs you to try something with just a little twist. Try the Gun Powder Farms Bison Burger – Local Lean Ground Bison with Sauteed Onions, Pepper Jack Cheese and Roasted Garlic Aioli. The Maryland Fried Chicken sandwich has crispy and juicy buttermilk fried chicken breast topped with housemade Old Bay aioli. Not impressed? The mac and cheese (Creamy smoked gouda, cheddar, gruyere, reggiano cheeses topped with caramelized mushrooms and white truffle oil) or Duck Confit Flatbread Pizza should do the trick.

Maybe you aren’t out on the town tonight, but you are looking for a good brunch. Say no more. Red Star’s brunch with bottomless Bloody Marys and Mimosas has your name all over it. Blackberry Cinnamon French Toast, huge Griddle Cakes, or the Late Night Burger (Double Cured Bacon, Swiss Cheese, Lettuce and Fried Egg) will be your midday delight.
