Review: Creme Restaurant and Lounge Brunch

Creme is marketed as a restaurant and lounge in Baltimore’s Mount Vernon neighborhood. I visited them for their Sunday Brunch, which is from 11am-4pm every Sunday. The decor of the main dining area is very elegant, with a hint of regal flair lingering in the walls brilliantly painted in blue and gold (gold as in 24kt, not a tarnished yellow). This was complimented with the nice touch of a pianist with accompanying drum machine playing recognizable selections from the large view of the main dining area window.  Sparsely populated at the time, we were seated immediately and shown a brunch menu reflecting traditional American cuisine with Southern roots. “Shrimp and Grits” and “Chicken and Waffles” are included as well as meals that are inspired by Baltimore’s seafood notoriety. One  such dish is  “The Harbor”, a poached egg over Maryland jumbo crab meat hash with Old Bay hollandaise over an English muffin. The chef does well with the very nicely seasoned chicken in the “Chicken and Waffles” dish and gives French Toast lovers a sweeter twist to a classic item. Service was a bit slow and made a mistake or two, but delicious Bottomless Mimosas (for $14), good company, ambiance, and soothing music, you won’t notice. I have not visited for lounge hours although their hours aren’t really late enough to qualify as a typical lounge. They do offer a happy hour, however, which I will be happy to update you with when I try.
